Saturdays with Jerry: A Trip to Jerry's Records

This afternoon Corey and I worked on our first assignment for our Filmmakers course. Carrie and Allie were our willing photography subjects. I ran Allie around and up and down the Hillman Library for mine. Corey's took us to Jerry's Records in Squirrel Hill. It's been a while since I'd been there. I don't have a record player (I live in 2013 and there is Spotify and that's just easier), so record shopping is not a high priority. Though, I do buy records. Specifically Phil Collins records. They're scattered throughout my apartment. Which is creepy, I know.

I'm sure it's news to no one that Jerry's is the place for anyone with any interest in buying records to enjoy. The place is almost cave-like, with a near claustrophobic stairway into the main space. When explored further, there are more rooms and cramped hallways with records packed onto shelves. Here are some photos I took while wandering.

I would buy a record player to be able to play ridiculous records solely from the Horror section.

Oh, and I'd play all the Phil Collins records.

Only found two "Canada" records. O, America.

Let's All Go to the Movies!

I have always loved going to the movies. I love buttery popcorn. I love trailers. I love sitting in the dark and watching something I've never seen before, and wondering whether or not it's something I'm about to fall in love with. I also love when a theater like The Oaks in Oakmont plays classics like E.T. or Ghostbusters, which I went to see with my friend Zack a couple Fridays ago.

We drove up to The Oaks and, to our pleasant surprise, the Steel City Ghostbusters were there in full force with their very authentic Ecto1.

Zack and I were moviegoing partners the next week when we took in Shut Up and Play the Hits at the Manor in Squirrel Hill.

I hadn't been to the Manor in a long time. It was another pleasant surprise to find that they had renovated the inside to add a bar/lounge area. PBRs were $2.50 and you could take them into the theater. Genius. All movies that I want to see that are playing at the Manor will now be seen there.

The Oaks, The Manor, and other independent theaters (like The Harris in Downtown or The Hollywood in Dormont) around Pittsburgh are great options when you're tired of the multiplexes.

PGH Beautiful: Awesome Signs, September 2011

Downtown: Okay, technically this isn't a sign, but we're going to say it is for the sake of this post. That license plate says "City of Gotham" and I think it's pretty damn awesome. I also think I can't wait until July 2012 (ugh!) to see The Dark Knight Rises.

Downtown: Beautiful signage bearing the name of what the Benedum Center was before it was the Benedum Center.

Squirrel Hill: I hope no one was jonesin' for Mike & Ikes after their breakfast at Pamela's. Absolutely love the apology and the sadface.

Haha, I forgot about this one until I saw it just now. I guess this is the Loch Ness Monster? It looks like it's dead and maybe also puking? This is also on the same retaining wall as the angel above. They make a great little couple.
