It was our normal this summer when Christian Bale and friends were using the streets and buildings of Pittsburgh as their sets for The Dark Knight Rises. Between catches glimpses of the action during a walk or bike ride and being a special guest of Warner Bros. during the day of Heinz Field filming, the summer of 2011 was the summer of Batman. And pretty soon we'll be in the midst of the summer of 2012, and this will be an event in and of itself:

Title of Post: Halloween Miracle #2: STEELERS BEAT THE PATRIOTS

It had all the makings of a horrible afternoon of football: I'd been at a Halloween party the night before and managed to get about two hours of sleep before I had to meet my dad for beers (ughhhh) and burgers before the dreaded event: the Steelers and the Pats. I'd been to witness this same match-up last year, and it was probably one of the more depressing nights of my life. (Being the Drama Queen that I am, I was researching which of Pittsburgh's many bridges is tallest, just in case.) So, I got excited for the spectacle of the game itself, but tried to temper anxiety. Luckily, chatting with two Canadian Steelers fans from Hamilton (Ham-town!) put me at ease.

AND THEN WE WON AND EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD WAS GOOD ONCE MORE.

For years I've had "kayak on the rivers" on my Pittsburgh to-do list. Finally, with great company, I made it happen. If this whole biking-to-work doesn't work out, maybe I'll get myself a kayak.

South Oakland is pretty much the last place in the city I would ever live now, but those four years I spent inhabiting those streets were a blast. It's always fun to take a walk down memory lane. Just watch out for all the garbage strewn about.
