EvBetPGH Resolution #1: Read More (Books About or Regarding Pittsburgh)

Let's face it. I stopped reading right around the time I switched from answering phones to writing very long, complicated, and involved briefs at work. All of a sudden, my day was nonstop reading and writing, which I have fallen into by pure chance. I went to school for writing, so to have found a job where writing is my main task is really lucky. It's nothing I would ever write for fun, but when I'm working on something there, the wheels start turning for what I want to work on here.

This year, I've decided I need to get back into the reading spirit. It's been a while since I explored new books (even when I was reading, I was mostly RE-reading), so what better kind of books to read than ones about Pittsburgh?! (This is a blog called Everything Better Pittsburgh after all.)

My goal is one a month, or twelve on the year (cause I'm calling it now: I will never keep pace with one book a month). I cheated and started reading the first book in December (I needed the head start, really!) and I'll "review" the selection once I've finished it. I started off with a graphic novel to ease my way back into things. Baby steps.

If you have any suggestions for PGH books I should read over the next year, please let me know! Leave a comment or send me an email! Yeah! 2012!

  1. Brothers and Keepers..did anyone at Pitt assign that to you? John Edgar Wideman's memoir of his brother going to prison.

  2. Amazon tells me that I have ordered 9 copies over the years.

  3. I have assigned that to myself! It will definitely be one of the twelve. Have you a copy I can borrow?

  4. I've yet to read it, but in my ever-growing to read pile is Michael Anderson's Nickelodeon City. It's essentially a history of movie theaters in Pittsburgh fro9 1905-1929. Maybe I'll take it on the plane tomorrow.

  6. Read it and if you think I'd like it, please to let me borrow it!
